Yamaha in Barcelona

They asked for the logo made of streets. I suggested making it with buildings.

La Bendita Agencia asked me to integrate the Yamaha logo, made of streets, into an aerial view of Barcelona. I suggested it would be far more powerful to build it out of the Eixample’s buildings, and that’s what we did.

The Yamaha logo, three tuning forks inside a circle, is formed by city blocks, with the circular square as its outline. The idea is that the logo isn’t stuck on top of the city but is part of it: rooftops, façades, inner courtyards and trees.

The project is 80% digital retouching and 20% AI: retouching builds the letters and the square, and AI unifies the light and texture of the whole. The difficulty is keeping the city’s logic (the scale of the buildings, the shadows of the low light, the aerial perspective) while the logo reads clearly.

The animation shows the process in four phases: the original photo, the cleared ground, the logo layout and the finished buildings. Then come the two final versions: a wide shot with the Sagrada Família in the background and a closer view of the logo.
